Parallel Capacitors

Capacitance values

Add as many as you need; leave a row blank to ignore it.

Total capacitance

How to use this calculator

List each capacitor's value and unit, then add or remove rows with the buttons; the total updates in real time. Capacitors in parallel simply add: Ctotal = C₁ + C₂ + … + Cₙ, so the tool converts everything to farads and sums it, returning the answer in the most readable unit. Because they're added, the total is always larger than the biggest individual capacitor.

What the value means in a circuit

Every parallel capacitor sees the same voltage, so the total is the sum of the charge each one stores (Q = C·V) — parallel capacitors behave like one bigger capacitor with more plate area. This is how designers increase filter bulk capacitance, boost a supply's ability to absorb current spikes, or fine-tune a value to a standard part. Knowing the combined capacitance also tells you the new RC time constant and the load the source or regulator must deliver.
