Inductive Reactance
Frequency & inductance
Xl = 2πfL. Enter f and L; the reactance, admittance and phase appear live.
Reactance
How to use this calculator
Inductive reactance is the opposition an inductor offers to AC, and it increases with frequency: Xl = 2πfL. Enter the frequency and inductance and the reactance (Ω, kΩ or MΩ) appears live, with admittance B = 1/(2πfL) and the +90° phase (current lags voltage). At DC an inductor is a short circuit; at very high f it behaves like an open.
What it means in a real circuit
Xl governs how inductors behave in AC: choke design, RF matching, current limiting, and the behaviour of transformers and motors at a given frequency. Comparing Xl against a load resistance tells you how "inductive" a circuit is and where it will start to limit current — essential when sizing inductors for power supplies and RF front‑ends.
